Our Logo

Brief Explaination

Story behind our Logo by Maxine Morgan-Wind

Our tāhūhū is our tupuna tāne. The whare itself is a wahine. Balance between male n female entities. The red through the raparapa (arms) is our bloodline while the black koru through the red is our tupuna embracing and protecting their mokopuna (all of us here now). The green fern leaf on either side of our marae name represents the bountiful forests and native bush we once had many, many, moons ago. The tuna, again, the marae/pa was once a place where people from all over to barter and trade for the tuna from Turitea. They were well known for its sweetness and fatness. As you can see, we have no walls on the whare. It represents the open welcoming with no barriers to all whānau onto the marae grounds. Last but not least, the name of our marae takes centre stage, in the middle of everything else.
