Turitea Marae Committee, Trustees and Members would like to acknowledge the following funders that have helped us restart our journey since February 2021.

Community Organisation Grants Scheme (COGS)

COMMUNITY ORGANISATION GRANTS SCHEME

Since 2021, we (Turitea Marae) have applied for funding with the Community Organisation Grants Scheme (COGS), who provide grants to non-profit community groups and organisations delivering community-based social services, projects and events. Grants are one-off contributions for the running or operational costs of organisations that provide community-based social services; community development costs, such as hui, training, planning, evaluation and facilitator fees; community projects or event costs that encourage participation in communities, promote community leadership and to promote social, economic and cultural equity.

Lottery Community Waikato and Lottery Environment and Heritage Funding

Funding approved

The Lottery Community grants fund made it possible for Turitea Marae to install a solar power package, and heavy duty gazebos to support our cultural and community activities. The Lottery Environment and Heritage fund provides grants for plans, reports and one-off projects that will protect, conserve and promote New Zealand’s natural, cultural and physical heritage. Our Environmental/Taiao project: Mangawhara Puna Restoration, a two-year restoration and mātauranga Māori initiative led by Turitea Marae with support from Trust Waiwaia Ltd
Oranga Marae

Marae Development Plan

Funding approved

2022 we applied and received putea towards our Marae Development Plan. The purpose of Oranga Marae is to support the physical and cultural revitalisation of marae as centres of Māori identity and mātauranga. Join us on our journey from the ground up, we will have several wananga and meeting mergers to get our Marae Development Plan finalised in 2023. Community Projects - Wananga Noho / Whanau Day Events

Lotteries Grant Application

This funding was to assist with project wananga noho and whanau day event costs and kitchenware provisions for our community gatherings. The community need met includes the revitalisation and sharing of Māori culture and heritage with our whanau, rangatahi and wider community members and support our Marae.

AED Community Project

Funding approved

in 2022 TUROTO C2B2B4B1 otherwise known as Turitea Marae of Otorohanga District, received a grant to purchase a critical lifesaving device for our community, an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) kit. Having this equipment in our community will increase someone's survival chances by up to 44%. Someone with little or no training will be able to follow the visual and voice prompts through an emergency and AEDs are important because they strengthen the Chain of Survival. We thank the Mazda Foundation for their support!!

Otorohanga District Council (ODC)

2023-2024 ODC Creative Communities Fund

The CCS Fund is supplied by Creative NZ and administered by the Ōtorohanga District Council Creative Communities Committee. Turitea Marae was successful in 2023 and most recently in 2024 to secure funding for getting our creative juices flowing with creative projects. We thank Creative NZ and the Otorohanga District Council for their tautoko.

Otorohanga District Council (ODC)

2025 TOKIHI WANANGA

Trust Waiwaiā Ltd are underway with the project that includes 2 key aronga: 1. Taiao Restoration and 2. Kōrero Tuku Iho, by connecting with local Marae. Turitea Marae has had the first wananga Introduction to Tōkihi, next is restoration site visits and identify taketake, with ongoing wānga for the the future. Tōkihi provides a frame for whānau to identify what it wishes to restore (taketake) through wananga and prioritized for restoration plan and Strategy. SO IT BEGINS....................

2026 Te Paepae Funding

Concept Design

Funding approved

We sort funding support for the concept design drawings for our Turitea Marae development. This included architectural concept plans, cultural design integration, and preliminary site layout to inform future stages of development. The drawings would provide our marae with a clear visual and technical foundation for decision-making.

Te Nehenehenui

Te Nehenehenui (The Trust) is the newly formed Post-Settlement Governance Entity (PSGE) on behalf of Maniapoto (inclusive of all within Te Nehenehenui). Turitea Marae has received the Marae Prosperity Grant from 2023-2026, Taiao Grant 2025-2026 and thank the Grants administration team and the IWI for their tautoko.

Maniapoto Māori Trust Board (MMTB)

CATEGORY TWO (MANIAPOTO MARAE)

2021/2022 The Maniapoto Māori Trust Board (MMTB) and Maniapoto Fisheries Trust (MFT) provide funding assistance to those fully registered on the MMTB Tribal Register and welcome applications for financial assistance. Category Two Grants are pre-approved allocations for MMTB recognised Maniapoto Groups, Marae and Annual Events. The purpose of funding must take place within the MMTB financial year which is 1st October to 30th September.

Otorohanga District Council (ODC)

2021 - 2024 ODC Community Grant Round Two

Since 2021 we have applied for Community Funding from Otorohanga District Council. These funds have benefited Turitea Marae to develop and provide for our events success! Projects included temporary shelter for our wananga/projects, Matariki event, safety enhancements and operational costs for Turitea Marae. We Thank you for your continued support ODC!

Ministry for Culture and Heritage - Matariki funding 2023

Mānawatia a Matariki

Turitea Marae applied for funding from Ministry of Culture and Heritage in 2023 when it came available. Kaupapa: Te Whakanui i te Tau Hou Māori me te whānau me nga hoa (Celebrating the Māori New Year with Whānau and friends). It was a chance to get together and remember whānau who have passed on, share food, learn and embrace Matariki principles through storytelling, waiata and karakia related to this theme and its significance to our people. Unfortunately with the change in government, came the change in funding availability and was not available for 2024.

Ōtorohanga Ora Fund - January 2025

MOKOPAPA 2025 at TURITEA

Turitea Marae is a barebones Marae at the moment, however it doesn't stop us from utilising the space to bring us all together. Funding supported this cultural event with the purchase of much needed generator, Potable water purchase, Hire of portable shower, Chiller, catering etc. 2 Kaita and 10 Kaiwhiwhi over 200 whānau and friends, Rangatahi, Ruruhī/Koroheke were welcomed to our whenua, participated in the event as either kaiwhiwhi or supporters, ringawera and more. Thank you Ōtorohanga District Council for supporting this kaupapa!

We have been blessed in 2026 to receive Lotteries funding for Te Paepae, Lottery Waikato Community, Environment and Heritage funding and COGS Waikato South funding. On behalf of Turitea Marae Trustees, Committee and all of our community, thank you all to our funders.
